DuVernay was a student at the college at the time she began to become interested in production for television journalism. Her first job was as an intern with CBS News, during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay remembered being told to take a look at the junk from a home belonging to a jury member. As a result of her duties she was dissatisfied with journalistic work and entered the publicity business. DuVernay was immediately hired after graduating from college as an assistant publicist in the studio that was small. The DuVernay Agency is her first agency for public relations.
